Voyages that go somewhere
Chart Cruises finds the sailings that take you from one place to another — ocean crossings, repositioning voyages and river passages that begin in one port and end in a different one.
What it is
A free planner for one-way travel by sea and river. Tell it where you would like to start, where you would like to end up and roughly when, and it shows the voyages that make that journey, each with its route, its days at sea and its fares.
Round trips are left out on purpose. Most cruise sites are built around the loop that brings you back to where you started; Chart Cruises is built around getting you across.
Why one way
Cruise ships move with the seasons. Twice a year, lines reposition their fleets between seasonal homeports: in spring (roughly March to May) from the Caribbean to Europe and Alaska, and in autumn (September to November) back again. Those relocation trips are sold as repositioning cruises: you board in one city and disembark in another, often on a different continent.
Because the ship has to make the trip regardless, these voyages are often priced well below comparable round trips per night. They also carry more sea days, and the slow pleasure of crossing an ocean rather than flying over it.
The busiest corridors:
- Transatlantic crossings: Barcelona, Southampton or Lisbon to Miami, Fort Lauderdale or New York, and back. Typically 10–16 nights, and the most sailings to choose from.
- Transpacific crossings: Sydney or Singapore to Hawaii or Vancouver. Longer, at 14–21 nights, and less common.
- Panama Canal transits: Fort Lauderdale to San Francisco or Los Angeles, through the canal.
- River passages: one way by nature, from one city to another along the Rhine, the Danube and other great rivers.
How it works
Sailing data comes from Cruisebound and is refreshed on a regular schedule. Port coordinates, sea routes and itineraries are computed on our server, and only one-way voyages that have not yet departed are shown.
Fares and booking go through Cruisebound — Chart Cruises is a discovery layer, not a booking platform. Prices are cruise fare only, per person, and can change; Cruisebound shows the current price when you check availability.
